Art Classes: YOUTH - Family Saturday Art Workshop
Family Saturdays Art Workshops provide the opportunity to explore the practice of artists who are currently exhibiting at the Lyndon House Arts Center. Coinciding with a variety of contemporary art exhibitions, these drop-in workshops include projects that are inspired by the shows and are designed for children and adults to participate in together. Come join the Lyndon House Arts Center for family-oriented art workshops and stay to explore the artwork that inspired the projects! Please email william.stephanos@accgov.com for more info.UPCOMING AFTER-SCHOOL ART CLASSES FOR CHILDREN: SPRING TERMStudio Art Practice with Lacy Hamilton, 7-11 yrsSix Tuesdays, 4:00-5:30 PMStarts March 5, 2024Studio Art Practice provides art instruction for 7-11-year-old artists, who will learn through tactile and visual exercises. Students will be introduced to studio practice in a variety of media including painting, ceramics, video art, and printmaking. They will practice artistic techniques, which they will use to help develop their own unique expression. The small class size will allow for more one-on-one collaboration and interaction between the students and teacher, fostering more individualized lessons and projects. Possible projects include papier-mâché, paper making, drawing, painting, jewelry making, ceramics, and more. Creativity and experimentation will be encouraged!Art Time with Lacy Hamilton, 4-6 yrsSix Wednesdays, 3:00-4:30 PM Starts March 6, 2024Art Time class, with 4-6-year-olds, combines artistic technique with authentic self-expression. Fine art is about creative problem-solving and not about just following step-by-step instructions. This one-and-a-half-hour class, with a very low child/adult ratio, offers students the opportunity to be curious and open to new ideas while developing new skills. Young artists will explore a range of fine art media, may include 2D and 3D, painting, drawing, printmaking, paper-making, ceramics, video art, and more. We open with circle time and sketchbook time. This will be a fun and informative class for young artists that are 4-7 years old.Studio Art Practice: Hand-Built Ceramics, 7-11 yrsSix Thursdays, 4-5:30 pmStarts March 7, 2024Studio Art Practice: Hand-Built Ceramics with Lacy Hamilton is an engaging after-school class designed for children ages 7-11 to explore their creativity through the fascinating world of pottery. In this hands-on course, taught in the Lyndon House Arts Center’s professional Ceramics Studio, young artists will learn a solid introduction to a hand built ceramics studio practice, focusing on technique and overall studio literacy. Through pinch, coil, and slab methods, participants will mold and shape clay into unique, personalized creations. The class fosters imagination, fine motor skills, and a sense of accomplishment as children bring their imaginative visions to life in the form of handcrafted ceramics. With a supportive and fun learning environment, Hand-Built Ceramics encourages self-expression and introduces kids to the joy of working with their hands to create beautiful and functional art pieces. Please make sure that notifications have not been turned off and confirm your settings are correct. If not, you will miss out on valuable information pertaining to your child’s class. Please have young artists wear clothes appropriate for messy art fun (they might get paint or other permanent marks on them). We will use smocks when possible, but they may not prevent stains on clothing.The Arts Education Department at Lyndon House Arts Center is dedicated to providing high-quality arts education curriculum and enrichment to youth, adults, and teens in the Athens area. We host adult evening classes, workshops, after-school youth classes, 3 Teen Clubs, and a comprehensive summer arts camp experience. The Arts Center includes 7 professional-level art studios including Painting/Drawing, Printmaking, Fiber, Photography, Ceramics, Sculpture, and Jewelry/Metals. There is a separate children's wing with wonderful facilities, a covered outdoor work court used as an outdoor studio and grassy lawns.
