Log House Open House
Open House “Log House”- Join us as we open the doors to the Log House and explore life in earlier times. Play games, make a craft, listen to a story (2:30), and explore the house built in the 1790s. In addition to our Log House activities, you can visit the brick factory ruins. Are you curious to know more about archaeology? Join the students and faculty from the University of Georgia as they continue their annual excavations at the ruins of the Athens Brick Company as part of the University Archaeological Training - Sandy Creek (UAT-Sandy Creek) program Ages: 3-Adults (children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult) Date: April 13 Time: 1:00-4:00 p.m. Fee: $3/person Special events are not scholarship eligible for events with a fee.

Journey Through the Stars
Join us for our planetarium program in the Sky Center. We will journey through the night sky, exploring the great beyond. Ages: Ages 5 and up. Children under 13 must be accompanied by a registered adult. Pre-registration is required. Time: 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Fee: $5/ACC resident, $7.50/Non-resident. This program is not scholarship eligible. Date: December 30th “All About Moons” Observe our moon and see moons of other planets. Speak about the importance of moons. January 20th “Winter Skies” Take a look at the winter skies that we will see. February 17th “Universe of Monsters” What are the stories of the monsters of the night sky? Spring Dates: Registration begins February 3rd March 16 “Eclipse” Learn about the upcoming solar eclipse and why we see this natural phenomenon. April 20 “Spring Skies” Come see what is visible in the night sky during spring. May 18 “Follow the Dippers” Listen to the story of Ursa Major and Ursa Minor. Be able to identify the two constellations in the sky, recognize the dippers, and navigate using Polaris the North Star Sneak Peek Planetarium from 11:15 AM-12:00 PM Following the January & April shows we will have the doors opened to anyone that wants to take a sneak peek at the planetarium without sitting through a show. Sit back for a few minutes and enjoy musical selections to fit the view. Please note groups with 10 or more people may need to schedule a separate show if staff are available.

Spring Break Family Fun
Clarke County School District spring break week is April 1-5th. SCNC is offering a variety of activities for families to do while out of school. Some programs have a fee and require pre-registration from everyone attending. Animal Encounter Get to know a few of our program animals by seeing them up close. Learn about their needs and get a chance to touch an animal. Date: April 2 Time: 10:00-11:00am Ages: all ages. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Fee: Free. No registration required. Rockets and Stars Make a rocket craft and then learn about space travel, our solar system and the stars we see in our night sky during a planetarium show. After the show, we will blast a few rockets off outside. Date: April 3 Time: 10-11:30am Ages: 5-adults, children under 13 must be accompanied by a registered adult. All participants must register. Take a look at the microscopic life on the porch by using a microscope. Ages: 6-Adult. Children under 13 must be accompanied by a registered adult. All participants must register. Date: April 5 Time: 2:00-3:30pm Fee: $5/ACC, $7.50/Non-ACC. Pre-registration required. Do you want an activity to do while visiting the nature center but want to keep your own schedule? Check out a back pack, complete a scavenger hunt and make a craft in the activity cubbies in the classroom.

Oconee Rivers Audubon Society Monthly Meeting
The Oconee Rivers Audubon Society meets the first Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. at the Sandy Creek Nature Center from October - May. Meetings are open to the public. Athens Astronomy Club Meetings
Local astronomy loving individuals meet once a month at Sandy Creek Nature Center. During the meetings we discuss upcoming astronomical events, star watches, and enjoy guest speakers. Some meetings are held at Sandy Creek Park for a Star Watch Event (those events are listed as Star Watch Meetings). Anyone 17 and under needs to be accompanied by an adult.
