ACTIVE Teen Camp
Week 1 Adventure & Exploration (6/2/25-6/6/25)
This week we will learn outdoor survival and wilderness skills with lessons on orienteering, sustainable trail building, kayaking, and canoeing. We will include teambuilding challenges and a scavenger hunt around Sandy Creek Park.
Week 2 Creative Expressions (6/9/25-6/13/25)
During week two, teens can explore their creative side through a variety of activities centered around visual arts, music, and dance. We will design cards and posters to be delivered to Meals on Wheels recipients and participate in an art-themed volunteer service project.
Week 3 Nature Immersion (6/16/25-6/20/25) NO CAMP ON 6/19/25 in observance of the Juneteenth Holiday
Week three features guided nature hikes, building birdhouses and bee hotels, nature journaling, and a hands-on conservation project.
Week 4 Local Legends (6/23/25-6/27/25)
This week, we will explore the history of Athens through guest historians and story tellers. We will visit local historical landmarks and participate in a day time ghost tour of Athens. Teens will also design and share their imaginative visions of Athens in the future.
Week 5 Eco Warriors (6/30/25-7/3/25) NO CAMP ON 7/4/25 in observance of American Independence Day
We will learn fun and creative ways to reduce waste, try some sustainable farming techniques at UGArden, learn practical ways to conserve water and develop our own ideas to reduce our ecological impact. At the end of this week, teens will present their ideas in a fun and engaging way.
Week 6 STEM Week (7/7/25-7/11/25)
Teens will explore the world of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. We will analyze soil and water samples here at Sandy Creek Park, build and cook with solar ovens, design simple, effective water filtration systems, and collect and present data on local wildlife and plants. There will also be one or more field trips and service projects to enhance learning through real-world applications.
Week 7 Cultural Connections (7/14/25-7/18/25)
This week is all about exploring different cultures through art, music, cuisine, and dance. We will explore the Latin American Ethnobotanical Garden on UGA’s campus and get our hands dirty as we help to improve this unique cultural resource.
