WINTER 2023 ART CLASSES FOR CHILDREN:

Art Time with Paula Reynaldi: 4-7 Yr Olds,
Tuesdays, 3:00-4:30 pm starting on January 10th.
Art Time class, with 4-7-year-olds, combines artistic technique with authentic self-expression.  Fine art is about creative problem solving and not just following step-by-step instructions. This one-and-a-half-hour class, with a very low child/adult ratio, offers students the opportunity to be curious and open to new ideas while developing new skills.  Young artists will explore a range of fine art media, may include 2D and 3D, painting, drawing, printmaking, paper-making, ceramics, video art, and more.  We open with circle time and sketchbook time.

2D/3D Animals II with Toni Carlucci:  7-11 Yr Olds, Tuesdays, 4-5:30 PM starting January 10th
Students will study drawing and 3D techniques that celebrate many kinds of animals.  Young artists will learn how to draw animals in 2D and then transfer those skills to working with clay to render 3D versions of their animals.  They will also utilize glaze pencils which allow one to actually draw on bisque-fired clay before they are put in the kiln for the second and final firing.  This will be a fun and informative class for young artists.
Study art with the Arts Center's own, Toni Carlucci!

Hand Built Pottery with Shelly Johnston: 10-14 Yr Olds, Thursdays, 4-5:30 PM starting January 12th. Young artists will have a blast expressing themselves artistically through the medium of clay. In this class we will cover all the basics in slab and coil construction when hand-building with clay. We'll also discuss the many conventional and unconventional tools used in shaping these masterpieces.  In this class kids will learn to design and make hand-built pottery and ceramic sculpture using various techniques such as slab construction, coiling, and pinching. Glazing techniques will also be covered. Students will create specific items such as cups and bowls, which require discipline and design along with a 2D sculpture piece such as a mask. This will be a fun and informative class for young artists that are 10-14 years old.

Puppet Intensive with Claire Ritzer: 10-14 Yr Olds, Thursdays, 4-5:30 PM starting January 12th.
Claire Ritzer was the former Education Director at the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta. She has decades of experience and excitement making and performing with puppets. The class will culminate with a finished puppet! Claire guest taught two of our art camps last summer and it was so cool!  They will have a finished puppet at the end of the session and there will be a puppet performance. Supplies are provided. This will be a fun and informative class for young artists that are 10-14 years old.
